Arugula



The rocket is a wild plant, a vegetable used in food as a type of lettuce. As it is somewhat similar to watercress, of rounded leaves, but is slightly spicy aroma and flavor reminiscent of orange.

Even in ancient times was grown arugula, andvegetables, as considered aphrodisiac. Currently you can find in almost all geographical areas in Italy but grown throughout the year, whereas here in Spain is cultivated from late winter to late spring.

Uses of arugula
The parts of the plant used in cooking are the leaves and stem fresh. They are used especially in salads. In Italy, France and Greece is especially appreciated.

Combines well with potatoes recipes, pasta and pizzas. In Italy, it is a typical condiment to add in once baked pizzas. They make a kind of sauce, a variation of the traditional pesto, mixing arugula, coarse sea salt, olive oil and freshly ground pepper.

Besides being part of the salad, arugula can also be used as an ingredient in meat and raw fish, carpaccio and cooked rice and pasta. As a curiosity, say that although now part of haute cuisine, the arugula for many years was considered a weed ... But nowadays who can resist a good vinaigrette arugula salad with walnuts and raisins or anchovies and parmesan?

The arugula is rich in vitamin C and potassium. And it is beneficial to improve intestinal transit, helps digestion and is diuretic.
